Best sledding spots near Kalamazoo Michigan for kids

The winter snow keeps pilling up in Michigan. That gorgeous white fluff is just waiting to be tackled and I’m sure your kids have been begging to get outside. Sledding and tubing is such a great way to play together as a family, spend time outside, and get exercise. If you’re looking for a place to go sledding or want to try out a new location, here are the best sledding hills in the surrounding Kalamazoo areas for kids.

Some of these places provide tubes, while others you need to bring your own sled. Make sure whenever you’re outside you layer up and stay warm. Need a sled, here is a downhill sled on Amazon we have enjoyed.

Tip Pack some hot chocolate in a thermos to help you warm up.

Kindleberger Park | Kalamazoo

Kindleberger Park has several large sledding hills

Want a great spot to enjoy winter sledding in Michigan? This hilly park is awesome for sledding since there are multiple large wide hills that are ideal for sledding. Plus there is a large modern playground for kids to enjoy while visiting. Be prepared for a decent walk since the park is expansive. I promise you’ll have exhausted children asleep on the ride home.

Prairie View Park | Vicksburg

The beach house and bathrooms are open at Prairie View Park while sledding

The beach hill at Prairie View makes a great spot for sledding in the winter time. During the cold days of winter the Beach House is used as a warming shelter so you can take a break and warm up between runs down the hill. Restrooms are also available inside the warming hut. The lake is a popular spot for ice fishing at the beach. Cross country skiing is allowed on the trails, you can find additional info here. They also have a 7 acre dog park on site for your four legged friends to play.

Milham Park Golf Course | Kalamazoo

Address: 4200 Lovers Ln, Kalamazoo, MI 49001

Milham Park Golf Course has a partnership which provides access (located a ½ mile from Lee’s former store) to a large sledding hill and groomed cross country trails. The Southwest Michigan Nordic club has been grooming cross county trails for years at the course. Milham Park Golf Course also has a bar so you can come in, have a drink and relax.

The Ski Shop at Milham Park

The Milham Park Gold Club works with the Ski Shop at Milham Park Pro Shop, where you can go for skis and snowboards for everyone in the family.  They also offer a full range of ski / snowboard services including fitting, mounting, grinding, and waxing.

Meyer Broadway County Park | Three Rivers

Snow Tubes are available at Meyer Broadway Park in Three Rivers, MI

Meyer Broadway Park has so much to offer. During winter the best part is access to two sledding hill that provides snow tubes on a first come, first serve basis. The tubes come in a range of sizes to fit both adults and children. One hill is in the front of the park as you enter, while the other is back behind the playground area. A dog park, modern playground, pavilion, disc golf course and tons of trails also can be found at Meijer Broadway Park.

Cost: Free to all St. Joseph County residents.

Non-county residents ($4 day pass per vehicle) or annual pass ($20).

Oakland Drive Park | Portage

Address: 7650 Oakland Drive Portage, MI 49002

Sledding and tubing are allowed in the Oakland Drive Park and is a great spot for families. Oakland Drive Park also has a modern playground, trails, pavilion and a dog park. More information can be found here.

Echo Valley Winter Sports Park | Kalamazoo

8495 E H Ave, Kalamazoo, MI 49048

Echo Valley is perfect for families and groups for a great outdoor adventure. Includes both toboggan runs and large tubing hills. Food and beverages are available in the warming lodge. Thankfully you can warm yourself by the circular fireplace while watching the tubers and tobogganers or enjoy the view from the deck. Grab a covered tubes with the option of two different sizes to ensure you have the best experience.

Getting yourself and your tube back to the top is easy with a tow rope that has a paved and heated surface. The quarter mile toboggan runs can reach speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. No need to drag your toboggan up the hill again, a lift returns them to the platform. Check out snow conditions before going, since they do not have snow machines.

Open Saturday & Sundays. There are no height or age restrictions for any attractions.

Vicksburg Sledding Hill | Vicksburg

Vicksburg Sledding Hill

As you’re entering Vicksburg, a giant sled hill is located between the golf course by Angels Crossing and the cemetery. This single hill is quite large and you can sled down both sides. The Welcome to Vicksburg sign marks the entrance to the hill!

Timber Ridge Ski Park | Gobles

07500 23 1/2 Street, Gobles, MI 49055

A great way to enjoy winter in Michigan is at Timber Ridge. Grab a snow tube, and let the moving sidewalk carry you up the hill. Then slide down one of nine tubing lanes. Snow tubing is a first-come, first-serve basis and a waiver needs to be filled out. Wear warm, comfortable boots (ski boots aren’t allowed.)

Cost: $25 for 2 Hours Tubing

$15 Helmet Rental (optional)
