Kayak the St. Joseph River at En Gedi Campground

A perfect location to camp for those who love to river kayak. We headed out for a quick weekend getaway to try out my birthday gift, a new Pelican kayak.  We camped at En Gedi Campground and Livery in Leonidas. A small private Christian campground set along the St. Joseph River. Even making reservations only 2 weeks out there was still availability.

Don’t have your own kayak or just need a shuttle service, En Gedi has you covered. They offer several trip options for camping guests and the general public, put in spots for 1 hour, 2 hour, or 4 hour trips with a shuttle service and kayak/canoe/tube rentals.

Along the far edge of the trail we discovered a secluded spot, perfect for finding clams and fishing. We waded out in the river, fishing poles in hand, catching over 20 fish in a couple hours.

Rock Bass and Largemouth Bass were numerous, and we easily spent the day exploring this spot.

A short trail loops around the campground, through the woods, field and along the river.

The campground has tent and RV sites, as well as four cabins for rental. Our site had our own short trail to the river. They have ice cream at the camp store, a playground, and a blow up bounce house for kids. Plus there are family events like outdoor movies and Kan Jam tournaments.

Are you a big music fan? The campground also hosts the En Gedi Music Festival in July, a Christian concert with some well known artists like Rhett Walker and Mandisa.
