Picking juicy, sun-warmed blueberries is a summertime delight. July and August in Michigan is synonymous with blueberry picking. Blueberries have a longer season beginning early July and lasting through August, although the picking season in Michigan can vary from year to year due to weather. Always call ahead to inquire of the current picking conditions and availability. Head on out and support your local area U-pick farms, the vast majority which are locally owned and operated. Michigan is one of the largest blueberry producing areas in the United States. Due to the moderate lake effect and unique soils Lake Michigan’s shoreline is ideally suited for blueberry production. If you live near Southwest Michigan or are visiting West Michigan’s lakeshore, take advantage of being able to pick your very own sun ripened blueberries.
