The Outdoor Education Center Trail : Corner of Portage Road and E XY Ave
The OEC (Outdoor Education Center) trail in Vicksburg is an easy boardwalk trail accessible for everyone. It is a short walk, only .4 miles, along a shaded wooden boardwalk. It is a quiet trail and leads to a dock overlooking the river that connects to Tub Lake. This trail is perfect for young children, strollers or even wheelchairs. Teepees can often be spotted along the trail left by playful children. Bring a little snack or picnic to have on the sunny dock and watch the ducks or geese go bye. On a warm day, you’ll occasionally see a kayaker paddling bye on the river. You’re guaranteed to spot a red-winged black bird flitting through the cattails or small minnows swimming amongst the lily pads near the dock.
There are no bathrooms at the trail. This trail is a less frequented spot, unless a school group from Vicksburg or Schoolcraft is using the space for an educational field trip. No parking or entrance free.
This trail was located near our previous home so we frequented it often, which allowed us to notice and observe the seasonal changes over time. I advise finding a trail of your own that allows you and your family to begin to develop skills of observation. Noticing the changes and patterns of trees, plants, and wildlife in the area can naturally happen as you spend time in nature.
